Theurgy

Type: Magic weaver

Theurgy is an ancient Eloesian practice. Like the augurs of the Empire, the magi of Fharas, the wizards of the north, and the hierophants of other Eloesian states, theurges are magical adepts whose power is manifested in a special way.

Theurges call their skill “the drawing-out of helpers beyond the veil.” Theurges, both male and female, wear veils over their faces and carry lanterns to show they possess a “second sight” and that the denizens of the material world (Varda) are blind to what lies beyond their immediate vision.

Theurgy involves the summoning of helpers, termed “archons,” into the material world.

  • White theurges summon archons (of many varieties) from the realm of heaven.
  • Black theurges summon archons (of many varieties) from the realm of hell. They invariably go mad, becoming uncontrolled forces of destruction.
  • Gray theurges summon archons from both heaven and hell, but they inevitably turn into black theurges.

Black and gray theurgy are banned, but still practiced in secret.
