Creature
Type: Humanoid
The cyclops, a race of one-eyed giants, once lived throughout Eloesus. After a widespread purge, their range is now restricted to isolated islands throughout the Middle Sea. They love to hunt humans, considering them delicacies, but rarely encounter such delicious prey. They eat animals and fish, but have no compunctions about cannibalism.
Standing up to 10 feet tall, with gray, hide-like skin, they fashion clubs from tree trunks and also hurl rocks at their enemies.
They are extremely stupid and cannot distinguish between their reflection and a real cyclops. Their language is very basic and only simple commands and expressions are communicated.
Cyclops have no taboos about brother-sister relations and inbreeding is rampant. No warmth or affection is shared by families, nor do cyclops mothers care for their children.
Cyclops worship no god, holding nothing more sacred than their stomachs. In times of hunger, they will eat bark from trees or devour roots. Hungry cyclops have been known to eat their own young.
Eloesian sailors have been taught that a cyclops’ weakness is its eye; shoot an arrow into one and it will be blinded, incapable of fighting. Still, cyclops are formidable opponents and only skilled warriors can overcome them. For most sailors, crashing on a cyclops-infested island is a death sentence.
LEGENDS
Eloesian priests state that cyclops are the creations of Kronos, demon lord of chaos. Moreover, they claim the existence of the Dread Cyclops, haunting the most remote islands, with dark ash-colored skin and a glowing red eye, extremely intelligent, with magical powers of fire.
