The Empire, 1151 Y.E.

Imperial helmet
“One Land, One Vision, One Emperor.”
Capital: Peregoth (Official); Imperial City (De Facto)
Government: Officially, representative democracy. De facto, absolute monarchy.
Ruler: His Undying Glory, Emperor Marcus Amaranthius the God

Of all the Western Nations, it is perhaps the most difficult to generalize about the Empire. It is a conglomeration of peoples forced into one nation. There are seven provinces ruled by seven governors: the nine islands of Imperial DistrictAnthania, the most densely populated region in the Western Nations and perhaps in Varda; Kheroe, a land of unmatched antiquity, and its sister Khazidea, the arid home of a strange people with even stranger customs; Gad, a colder, less developed region; Paladium, a former theocracy; and Eloesus, a warm land of plenty and home to a proud and fiercely intellectual people.

The Empire is ruled by one man: the emperor who is called, by some, a living god. He is styled High Thane of Gad, Tyrant of Eloesus, Commander of Anthania and Peregoth, and Great King of Khazidea and Kheroe. He is the shepherd of the people whose demands are law. Wherever he goes, the legion follows. If he says it is day, it is day; if he says it is night, it is night.

In recent times, the Empire and Fharas to the south have engaged in a constant, brutal war. Though armies shed blood almost every day and thousands have died on the KhazideaFharas border, both hold respect for the other. The two rulers—Emperor Marcus Amaranthius and Shapur, King of Kings—have met more than once in person. In battle, however, quarter is rarely given.

Recent Events

The Zarube-Imperial War: 1101-1110 Y.E. A long and costly war that ended with Imperial victory, Imperial hegemony over Mekara, and  an indemnity paid by Zarubain.

The Reconstruction of Eloesus: The widespread destruction of the turn of the century led to an extensive rebuilding of ruined Eloesian cities. The wealthy war hero Appian dedicated much of his resources to rebuilding Thénai, and in his honor the city was renamed Thenoa Appiana.
