Battle mages are magic weavers with tenuous ties to the wizards. Though trained according to the traditions of the wizards, battle mages most often have achieved little more than apprentice rank. Their most distinguishing feature, however, is that they serve the City of Galiope in its army and not the Council of the Twelve.
Though they often number fewer than two hundred at any time, the battle mages have an outsize effect on Gallia‘s military and wield powers of ice, fire and lightning to devastating effect.
POWERS
• Battle mages wear chain mail and light helmets in direct contrast to the wizards, who view the need for physical protection as a sign of weakness. Battle mages also wield swords or daggers. They have distinctive blue clothing which sets them apart.
• Magical power varies from battle mage to battle mage but generally falls into the wizard conceptions of “schools of magic”: pyromancy, cryomancy, electromancy, necromancy and others. Thus a battle mage might hurl a firebal, spew a blast of cold, call up a jolt of lightning or send a withering ray.
