Ratlings are a race of people who bear some resemblance to rats, with whiskers and fur whose color ranges from jet black to chestnut brown. They are naturally resistant to disease and very agile. They often linger on the fringes of human civilization, congregating in large cities where they are often hated and feared. Some take to lives of crime, being natural born climbers and excellent at sneaking undetected. Others find a way to forge an honest living.
Naturally athletic, ratlings form entire battalions in the Imperial military. Recently, in the Empire, they were granted the ability to hold public office, but old prejudices and hatreds linger, and unfounded fears of disease prevent full acceptance.
